Ukrainian Games Festival Launches on Steam with Record-Breaking 680 Games and 50 New Reveals

The fifth annual Ukrainian Games Festival has officially launched on Steam, running through August 24 and marking the largest celebration of Ukrainian game development to date. This year’s event brings together more than 680 games and upcoming projects from Ukrainian developers, featuring over 50 brand-new game reveals, more than 190 playable demos, and hundreds of discounts reaching up to 90 percent off. Organized by Ukrainian publishing agency Palaye, the week-long festival showcases the remarkable resilience and creativity of Ukraine’s gaming industry, which continues to thrive despite more than four years of full-scale conflict with Russia.

The timing of the festival carries deep symbolic significance, concluding on August 24, which marks Ukraine’s Independence Day. The event has received prominent placement on Steam’s front page from August 17 through August 21, ensuring maximum visibility for participating developers. This prime positioning represents a significant endorsement from Valve’s platform and highlights the growing international recognition of Ukrainian game development talent.

Major Game Launches and Highly Anticipated Releases

Among the most anticipated releases during the festival is S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Cost of Hope, the expansion to the critically acclaimed S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl, scheduled for launch on August 21. The original game, developed by Kyiv-based GSC Game World, became one of 2024’s most successful releases despite the extraordinary challenges of wartime development. Other notable launches include Tukoni: Forest Keepers, Last Pirates: Die Together, The Sinking City 2, and Profits 2167, with more than 50 games releasing during the festival period. The Sinking City 2 comes from Frogwares, the acclaimed Ukrainian studio behind the Sherlock Holmes detective game series, further cementing Ukraine’s reputation for producing high-quality narrative experiences.

The festival also introduces UGF Direct, a new video showcase featuring more than 60 trailers and announcements from Ukrainian developers. This presentation format mirrors industry-standard showcases like Nintendo Direct and PlayStation State of Play, demonstrating the maturation of Ukraine’s gaming ecosystem into a professional, organized community capable of producing world-class marketing materials alongside world-class games.

Innovative New Game Reveals Showcase Ukrainian Creativity

Among the 50-plus new game reveals, several titles stand out for their innovative concepts and impressive pedigrees. Steel Core from Starni Games offers a turn-based tactical strategy experience featuring customizable mechs defending mining outposts against alien threats. The game combines base-building mechanics with roguelite progression across hostile alien worlds. Saturn 94 presents a unique Soviet retrofuturist station-management game set aboard a failing space station orbiting Saturn, where players must balance survival with political decisions about following or defying Party orders.

The horror genre is well-represented with titles like Sarco from Hello Andromeda, a first-person horror experience where players must maintain constant visual contact with a sarcophagus to contain the primordial being within. The same studio is also releasing Fog’n’Silence, an open-world afterlife exploration game viewed through the perspective of a drone operator. Perhaps most notably, Tulpa the Unseen Lover is being developed by professional animators whose credits include Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Zootopia 2, and Overwatch cinematics, highlighting the cross-pollination between Ukraine’s gaming and animation industries.

Personal Stories of Development During Wartime

The human stories behind these games add poignant context to the festival. Hear My Light, a narrative puzzle-shooter about guiding a brother through a contaminated combat zone using drones and sound, is being developed solo by Stas Shostak, creator of Titan Chaser. Remarkably, Shostak is currently serving in the Armed Forces of Ukraine while continuing his game development work. His story exemplifies the extraordinary dedication of Ukrainian developers who continue creating despite circumstances that would halt most creative endeavors.

The festival offers substantial discounts across numerous acclaimed titles. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl is available at 33 percent off, while the complete Metro series, developed by 4A Games with roots in Ukraine, offers discounts up to 90 percent. Frogwares’ Sherlock Holmes series similarly reaches 90 percent off, and numerous independent releases including Ostriv, Becastled, and STONKS-9800 offer meaningful savings. SAND: Raiders of Sophie receives its first-ever discount at 20 percent off, making this an ideal time for players to explore Ukrainian gaming excellence while directly supporting developers facing unprecedented challenges.

Expert Opinion: The Ukrainian Games Festival represents far more than a commercial event—it demonstrates how creative industries can serve as both economic lifeline and cultural ambassador during times of crisis. With over 680 games featured and developers actively serving in military while continuing their craft, Ukraine’s gaming sector has proven remarkably resilient. This festival positions Ukrainian developers for continued growth in the post-conflict era while generating crucial revenue and international goodwill during the ongoing struggle.
